Anxiety is a general umbrella term to describe several disorders. Anxiety symptoms can include feelings of nervousness, apprehension, worrying, and fear. These symptoms can affect the way one acts and feels and can even advance into real physical symptoms.
Common psychological symptoms of anxiety can include:

Anxiety also can cause physical symptoms such as stomach cramps, a rapid heartbeat, profound sweating, feelings of choking, hyperventilation, shortness of breath, vertigo, diarrhea, chills or hot flashes, muscle tension, fatigue, insomnia, nausea and diarrhea.One type of anxiety is Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). This is a chronic disorder that describes people who have extreme ongoing anxiety and worry about situations, life events, and objects. People with this disorder worry about money, family, heath, work, and school. However, they have difficulties pinpointing their specific fear. The disorder usually impedes the individuals work, school, and relationships.Panic disorders are another type of anxiety. Anxiety symptoms of this disorder include sudden and short-term moments of apprehension and terror. It can cause people to feel nauseous, dizzy, confused, have difficulties breathing, and have uncontrollable shaking. These attacks tend to peak after 10 minutes and can last up to several hours. Panic attacks tend to happen after long periods of stress or after frightful experiences. However, they can happen spontaneously as well.Another type of anxiety is a phobia. A phobia is described as an irrational fear and avoidance of a certain situation or object. This type of anxiety differs from general anxiety disorder (GAD) because the individual has a specific cause for their anxiety. Phobias can be caused by everyday objects, certain situations (such as being in an enclosed space), or animals or insects.Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is another type of anxiety. This disorder causes individuals to participate in compulsive thoughts or actions that may be intrusive, distressing, or repetitive. Those with OCD are aware that their compulsive behaviour is not unnecessary, but doing the behaviour can help relieve their anxiety.There are many different types of anxiety symptoms, as the disorder is quite broad.
